Form a group of 5 members from your cooperative and gain access to a solar irrigation system.
Based on your cooperative’s location, your group can apply for one of the two solar irrigation systems: ECM or Ignite.

How it works?
Applying for the Solar Irrigation System loan is very simple, you just need to follow the following steps:
1- Form your group: the group should consist of 5 members. All members should belong to the same cooperative
2- Select your cooperative: The type of solar irrigation system your group can apply for depends on where your cooperative is located.
3- Submit the group form: Each group member should fill in and submit their individual intake form
4- Verification: Cooperative leader will confirm the membership in the cooperative for all 5 members in the group.
5- Assessment: MoneyPhone performs credit check and loan assessment. Once approved, all members sign an individual contract.
6- Delivery: The solar irrigation system will be delivered by the system provider to your cooperative for your group to use.
7- Repayment: Each group member repays their individual loan amount plus interest to MoneyPhone after 6 months.

How much can each farmer borrow?
Each farmer within the group can receive a loan amount of RWF 455,723 or RWF 414,294, depending on the cooperative’s location and the applicable solar irrigation system.

How much is the interest rate?
The interest rate is 21% per season (6 months), with an admin fee of 2,5%.
How long is the loan term?
The loan term is 6 months, which matches one full agricultural season.
When do we need to repay the loan?
The group repays the total principal and interest at the end of the 6-month term (bullet payment).
Do we need collateral?
No, no collateral is required for the group loan.
Do I need a guarantor?
No individual guarantor is required. Instead, the group members act as mutual guarantors for one another. This means that if one member fails to repay, the remaining members are jointly responsible for covering the outstanding amount.
Who can apply for a group loan?
You must be:

A member of a registered cooperative

Between 18 and 70 years old

Able to provide production information for the last two seasons

Free of any unpaid loans with other institutions
When will we receive the loan?
Your group will receive the solar irrigation system a few days after the contract is signed and approved.
How do we repay the loan?
Each member repays their loan six months after disbursement, using a bank account or mobile wallet:

What happens if one member doesn’t pay back?
The group is jointly responsible. The group members must ensure that the total loan amount is fully repaid.
Can we apply for an individual agricultural loan ?
Yes. You can apply for an individual agricultural loan on your own — you don’t need to be part of a group to qualify.
Can I leave the group before the loan ends?
No, once the group loan is approved and signed, all members must remain until full repayment.
Can I pay before the maturity date?
Yes. You can pay your loan early, before the 6-month term ends, but the total principal and interest will stay the same.
What happens if we can’t repay on time?
A late payment fee of 6% per month will be charged on the overdue amount. If your group can’t pay on time, please contact MoneyPhone early, and we’ll help you find a solution.
